Croatian painter and graphic artist, a prominent lyrical intimist, Slavko Šohaj (Zagreb, 1908. - Zagreb, 2003.) drew inspiration from Matisse and Cézanne after completing the Zagreb Academy. He often exhibited with Oton Postružnik and Fran Šimunović, and worked as an art associate in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb. An oil on canvas work created in 1959, represents the interior of the studio in the typical Šohaj's fashion - with strong contrasts, vibrant coloration, rhythm in space. Without aspiration for realistic perspective, elements are simplified with pronounced contours. The painting is signed and dated.
