The 200+ photographs, half of which are in colours, inserted in a large album bound in pegamoid, were taken on the occasion of the visits that the then dictator of Romania, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, made on some of the construction sites organized by the government to put into practice one of the fundamental principles of Marxist ideology, industrialization. Whether it was the construction site of the hydropower plant on the Argeş River, which, at the time, bore the name of the supreme leader, later renamed Vidraru, or the construction sites of chemical plants (Ploieşti, Craiova, Bacău, and Bucharest), the scenography was the same. Cheerful workers dressed in bright uniforms, Gheorghiu-Dej tired and sick, but still active, young Nicolae Ceaușescu ready to take the central place, all in a natural setting transformed according to the party’s directives.
