Gabriel Jurkić (Livno, 1886 – Livno 1974) was a Croatian painter best known for his landscapes. He attended the painting school of B. Čikoš Sesija and M. C. Crnčić, and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. After 50 years of living in Sarajevo, he returned with his wife in 1956 to the native Livno area, to the Franciscan monastery of Gorica. He bequeathed his works to the Monastery and the city of Livno. Initially, he painted romantic landscapes and exceptionally intimate portraits. Then he freed himself and began to paint using pointillist techniques, with a lot of light in the paintings. In the 1920s, he started cycles of four seasons and began to create religious-themed works. The oil on panel "Poppy Field" is signed and dated to 1921. The depiction of summer nature is imbued with gentleness and simplicity. With a thinner coat of paint, lighter coloration, and quick brush strokes in painting high grass, he conveyed the poetic nature, through which he deepened his religiosity.
