inscription on the back

Zora Pl. Preradović (Arad, 1867 - Zagreb, 1927) was the daughter of the poet Petar Preradović and a painter who attended the Kunstgewerbe Schule in Vienna (Department of Flower Painting) from 1885 to 1890, and concurrently the private painting school of M. Egner (until 1895). From 1918 she lived permanently in Zagreb where she soon opened a painting school for girls. She painted still lifes and landscapes in oil, gouache and watercolor, which she often exhibited throughout the former K. und K. empire. She was popular in Zagreb's cultural circle and successfully sold her works. On the protective backing cardboard of the drawing "Old Tkalča" a note on the back, the recipient of the gifted painting wrote in French, which loosely translates as: "I got this picture when I turned 17 / 13 VII. 15. (...) Zagreb 1915, (...) summer". BRP
