Marko Nakić (1841 – 1900) served as the head of the Drniš municipality from 1875 until his sudden death in December 1900. Respected for his intellect, and not only his vast knowledge about local and world politics and economics, Nakić contributed to the development of the Drniš region, despite occasional disagreements with local representatives of the Church. This bas-relief portraying him is a version of a memorial plaque created by Ivan Meštrović in 1910 and is known in two documented casts. One is currently kept in the collection of the Museum of Drniš region in Drniš, while the other was recorded in the 1980s in the collection of Miho Nakić in Zagreb. The bas-relief version of Nakić's portrait comes to us from the historical collection of Zvonimir Pučar (1898-1982), as part of which it was also exhibited in 1983 at the exhibition 'Ivan Meštrović in private collections'.
