Oskar Herman (Zagreb, 1886 - Zagreb, 1974) was a Croatian painter of Jewish origin, a member of the Munich Circle and one of the founders of modern art in Croatian visual art. Throughout several painting phases, he always remained loyal to the development of authentic painting. He created in oil and drawing, watercolor, gouache, and tempera. A realistic, simple, but powerful depiction of the landscape was created until the 1930s, during Herman's golden age when he began to paint nature with fresh chromatics. His nonchalant handling of details in painting the outlines of peasants, but also his closeness to nature, is evident.
