Beginning his creative activity in a climate of freedom, at a time when the Romanian artistic scene was going through a modest "renaissance" (1965-1970), Horia Bernea will develop his creation freely, often taking nature as a premise. One of the places he will explore and grow fond of in his peregrinations will be Poiana Mărului (Brașov), which will become from 1955 the new "Barbizon" of young Romanian painting. With its archetypal construction and picturesque hills, Poiana Mărului became a place of rich inspiration for artists such as: Teodor Rusu, Letiția Bucur, Șerban Milcovici, Teodor Moraru, Barbu Nițescu, Vasile Ulian, Maria Meșteru, Ion Dumitriu Șerban Epure and others.
