The first issue of the newspaper "România Liberă" appeared on 28 January 1943 as an illegal publication of the Romanian Communist Party, which campaigned for the exit from the anti-Soviet war and for the communization of the country. The editor-in-chief was Grigore Preoteasa, who later became communist leader. The publication was printed on a single two-sided, small-format sheet, in a print limited to several hundred copies, and the articles were unsigned. The piece is particularly rare because the copies that were discovered were confiscated and destroyed by the authorities, and are it is in a very good preservation state.
