"The Kingdom of Hungary, divided into Upper and Lower Hungary, Transylvania, Essclavonia, Croatia", editor Jean Lattre. This map shows the territory of Hungary, Transylvania and the neighboring countries. It is part of the "Atlas Moderne". At this time, Hungary was ruled by Joseph II, a dynamic, powerful leader heavily influenced by the Enlightenment. He was the eldest son of Empress Maria Theresa and also the brother of the future queen of France, Marie Antoinette, who ended alongside her husband, Louis XVI, on the scaffold, both victims of the French Revolution. The cartouche is in the upper right, displaying the royal emblem of Hungary. The French cartographer Jean Janvier (1746-1779) published in 1770 in Paris the Atlas Moderne, which also includes this piece. The map covers the northern and southern parts of Hungary, including Transylvania, as well as parts of Bosnia, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Wallachia. Experts have not agreed on the scholar's first name, he is either mentioned under the first name Jean or Robert, this is because he always signed his works as S(igno)r Janvier. Hand-colored copper engraving after printing.
