The work was dedicated to King Carol I, whose portrait, made in the form of a heliogravure, opens the volume. Colonel Constantin Herjeu (1856-1928) was the commander of the 1st Genius Regiment, professor at the Superior War School in Bucharest, promoted general and minister in the conservative government led by Alexandru Marghiloman.
