The main work of the historian Gheorghe Ionescu-Gion (1857-1904), which also ensured his posthumous fame, is the present one, the first scientific history of the city of Bucharest. A student and disciple of Hasdeu and Odobescu, he had a rather acidic polemic with Nicolae Iorga. The work, dedicated to King Carol I, includes numerous photographic reproductions, heliogravures, drawings and plates. The binding is new.
