This exquisite work of art was created by the painter in his most productive period, during the 90s of the last century. It brilliantly manifests Seder's characteristic duality of matter and spirit; in fact, the fusion of opposites underlies their indisputable interdependence. The expressionistic gestuality with which he built and the associative figurative chromatics with which he shaped the visible and the symbolic - creating light out of darkness and spirit out of the matter of the epoch - in this painting pulsate with dense and resonating colors that seem infinite. The painting "Embrace" was exhibited at an extensive exhibition of the painter's works titled "Đuro Seder - Faces of the Infinite" held at the Klovićevi dvori Gallery in 2007, organized by Mirko Jozić and curators Lada Bošnjak and Koraljka Jurčec Kos. It was reproduced in the exhibition catalog on pg. 41. Đuro Seder graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Antun Mezdjić (1951) and completed his postgraduate studies in painting under Marin Tartaglia. At the same Academy, from 1981 to 1983, he was an assistant professor, then a full professor of painting and dean of the Academy (until 1987), and later professor emeritus until the very end. Since 2000, he was a full member of the Class for Fine Arts of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He spent more than four decades in his studio at the Art Academy, creating his grandiose opus of exceptional artistic, spiritual and material value. His juvenile sublimation of classical themes always rested on a characteristic "raw" and by no means refined chromatic process. In interpretations, for instance, of biblical plots, he often used grotesque remarks and didn't hesitate to use apocryphal notes, which reflected his complex religious spirit. All in all, it's a fact that it is with such paintings that Đuro Seder, as a free-minded biblical painter, made a series of anthology paintings that are an indispensable value of the sacred pictorial universe of our time.
