The work was exhibited at the First Exhibition of Croatian Artists in the Independent State of Croatia, Art Pavilion, Zagreb, 1941, under the title "Still Life I.", and was cataloged in the exhibition catalog under cat. no. 60.

Croatian painter and art critic Jerolim Miše (Split, 1890 - Split, 1970) learned about painting from E. Vidović, O. Iveković and M. Cl. Crnčić, whom he also criticized and was therefore expelled from school. In Rome, he associates with Ivan Meštrović, and upon his return to Split, he holds his first solo exhibition. He works as a drawing teacher, travels around Europe, and becomes familiar with the work of German expressionists. Along with Lj. Babić and V. Becić, he forms the Group of Three. Most of his works are portraits where contemplation of the inner human life is visible, and he also paints Dalmatian landscapes. In the 1940s, he also paints still lifes, as shown in the oil on canvas that is signed and dated. The cauliflower as the central part of the stable composition is set on a white fabric on which a kitchen knife is also laid. The background is created with vertical strokes and unclear spatial determinants, which further emphasize the cauliflower. Coloristically, the painting shows Miše's tendency towards saturated and subdued tones. The green shades of leaves, creamy tone of cauliflower and bluish-gray background create a harmonious, somewhat cold palette.
