Croatian painter Marko Rašica (Dubrovnik, 1883 - Koločep, 1963) was a versatile artist who dabbled in oil, watercolour, and graphic techniques. During his studies in Vienna, he came into contact with secession and turned to melancholic themes. He first painted in the spirit of academic realism, then transitioned to the Secessionist art expression and Bukovac's Divisionism. He exhibited at the Imperial Austrian Exhibition in London in 1906, as well as in Zagreb, and travelled throughout Europe. The oil on canvas acts as an idealization of the real world. The intimate motif of a garden is represented in green tones with hints of light that breaks through, as well as accents of red and pink flowers.
