She was a student of the first generation at the Temporary Higher School for Art and Craft (1907/1908). She learned to draw and paint from nature from Prof. Bela Čikoš Sesija and Menci Cl. Crnčić, whom she married in 1910 and left school, but not painting. When they built a house in Novi Vinodolski (1913), they spent their free time painting in it, often in the company of Crnčić's students. As she progressed in painting, she became a solid painter of coastal landscapes and views of small towns on the island of Krk, in short, nature and a bright palette. In winter in Zagreb, she would paint snowy city walkways and parks, flower bouquets, and portraits, landscapes in the style of some "frozen" post-impressionism, and portraits with academic realism. She held a solo exhibition at the Ullrich Salon in 1921. She was a member of the informal Women's Art Club from the beginning of their gathering/organization (1928) with the aim of joint exhibitions. Lina Crnčić Virant participated in every exhibition of the Club until 1933. Three of her oils "Primorkinja", "Old park" and "Summer house" were also included in the exhibition Half a Century of Croatian Art 1938 at the Meštrović Pavilion. The oeuvre of Lina Crnčić Virant has not been sufficiently explored, and what has been documented so far from the Club exhibitions and what we have seen from private collections and NMMU, indicates stretched dating between 1915 and 1925. The Collection Kovačić – Mihočinec, which to some extent systematically collects works by Croatian female painters born in the 19th century, preserves a considerable number of her early works (1908 – 1920) which are portraits of village girls, figural compositions of folk inspiration, Ex Libris and sacral themes. They are made in pastel, gouache, crayon and pencil. The National Museum of Modern Art in its collection keeps two oil paintings by Lina Crnčić Virant, "Sea in the Sun" and "Flowers". (B.R.P.)
