Ivan Rabuzin (Ključ near Novi Marof, 1921 - Varaždin, 2008) stands out as one of the most recognizable naive artists. Despite his initial career in a furniture factory, Rabuzin, attending evening courses with Kosta Angeli Radovani, learned the painting craft. He soon devoted himself exclusively to art. Thanks to him, idealized hills of Zagorje are exhibited all over the world. Rabuzin is a master of transforming local motifs into magical visions of natural harmony. He transforms Zagorje landscapes into harmonious wholes of color and shape. Rabuzin created landscapes in which the local backdrop merged into a universal vision of harmony and tranquility in nature. Blossoming hills are a prime example of Rabuzin's ability to harmonize colors. The colorfulness and balanced composition of the work indicate that it is a landscape on the border of reality and imagination. Perfect clouds harmoniously overhanging the Zagorje hills lead the eye to the foreground and wheat achieved by consistent, rhythmic brush strokes. Symmetry, balance, and rhythmic repetition of forms in building the composition reflect aesthetic ideals of unity, order, and transcendence.
