In his workshop in Târgoviște, which he built in the spring of 1922 and where he worked for almost twenty years, starting in 1924, when he retired to this noiseless town, Gheorghe Petrașcu found the peace he needed to create. When not working in his studio, the painter can often be seen strolling through the streets of the small town with his children and his wife, whom he portrays on many occasions, and can also be seen around the ruins of the Royal Court, where he often sets up his easel to work outdoors. Since the 1920s, the studio has also become a visual source, its rooms being painted either as a visual support for character compositions or on their own as interior compositions.
