88. Walking in Venice

1883, Giurgiu - 1959, Bucureşti

Estimate:
EUR 10.000 - 18.000
Sold
EUR 9.000

oil on cardboard, 40.5 x 53.5 cm, 40,5 × 53,5 cm, signed bottom right, hard to read, with red, "Dărăscu"

Nicolae Dărăscu's familiarity with Impressionist painting was to become an important source for the painter's creation, who in the inter-war period became the main successor of historical Impressionism, at great odds with Samuel Mützner. Both were to be influenced by the work of Claude Monet and the development of Neo-Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, but some of the coordinating features were to remain throughout their careers. For Dărăscu, chromaticism and the effect of light at different times of the day - Monet's lesson - were also to be used in his mature decades, especially in his Venice seascapes.
