Julian Opie's work is found at the intersection of digital graphics and Pop Art, the artist being inspired by minimalist lines and visual expressions encountered in the already global culture of the 80s-90s. Generally, the artist follows two main directions: naive, caricaturish figurative art, where the shape of the characters is maximally essentialized, like in cartoons, and stylized landscapes taken from the visual repertoire proposed by the eighties interpretations of Japanese stamps. Both through the alternative medium chosen by the artist and the up-to-date technique used in the production process of the work, namely inkjet printing and acrylic lenticular, and the accessible theme he approaches in this series, Julian Opie brings to galleries and within the institutional art circuit a form of art that is deeply commercial with a touristic character.
