During the Middle Ages, the Katana designated the sword used by the samurai, as a weapon but also as a sign indicating a certain rank. During the medieval ages, these swords were in various sizes, while the manufacturing procedure was a special one, which involved their merging by beating two types of blades, with a different carbon percentage. During World War II, the katana was part of the day uniform of Japanese officers and proved to be a terrible weapon, especially in close combat.
