The valuable white jade gem, dating back from the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), depicts a so-called hornless dragon (chilong). The Chinese mythology is centred on the dragon, as one of the four animals worshiped over time. The ancestor of the dragon in the archetypal sense can be found on the Neolithic pottery or on ritual pots from the Bronze Age. The easily identified distinctive shape of the dragon crystallized during the Warring States period and the Han dynasty, when it was associated with the imperial power.
