Research information

The work participated in "Official Salon" exhibition in 1930.

Painter with Basarabia origins, Anatol Vulpe carried out his artistic studies under the guidance of Contantin Artachino at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest. Starting with 1929, he has been a constant participant in the Official Shows in the capital. His first personal exhibition is organised in 1936, in Mozart room. Anatol Vulpe stood up particularly for landscapes, urban views, still life, portraits and nudes of women. With an execution which reminds of Amedeo Modigliani's portrait manner, Anatol Vulpe transposes female physiognomy with great freshness and delicacy, highlighting, through subtle chromatic rhythms, the distinctive features of his models. Whether they hide their eyes or look directly in the eyes of the painter, the muses proposed by the artist hide their anguish with specific hand gestures. His chromatic harmonies and the particular attention for the organisation of the composition consecrated Anatol Vulpe in the posture of the painter of a new modern wave in the interwar period.
