One of the medals commissioned by the Romanian Numismatic Society to celebrate various important moments of native history. The piece details the scene of the Union of the Principalities. Obverse: 24 JANUARY - 1909 (above, semicircular). In the field, a medallion with the bust of King Carol I superimposed on six crossed flags, surmounted by a closed crown, on a bundle of rays. Under the king's bust, the coat of arms of Romania, in an oval shield, framed by a laurel and oak branch. Reverse: Centrally, a scene from the meeting of the Electoral Assembly from Wallachia, from January 24, 1859, made after the work with an identical theme of the painter Theodor Aman. Above, the effigy of ruler AL. I. Cuza, in a circular medallion, having at the base two shields side by side with the coats of arms of Wallachia and Moldova, framed by an olive branch and laurel. In exergue, the inscription: 24. JANUARY 1859. On the circle, the issuer: ROMANIAN NUMISMATIC SOCIETY. In the field, marginally, the engravers' siglas and the city: M&W ST.
