French philosopher and jurist Quillaume du Vair (1556-1621) was appointed in 1616 to the dignity of "keeper of the seals", the highest office in the French legal world at the time. This portrait was painted by the Flemish-French naturalised engraver Gerard Edelinck (1640-1707). Engraving on copper.
