A similar icon has been published in "Pictura ÈÄrÄneascÄ pe sticlÄ" ("Rural Glass Painting"), by Iuliana and Dumitru Dancu, Bucharest, 1975, p. 131.
This iconographic theme has oftentimes been approached by the Prodan paintresses (Prodan’s widow and daughter) and always in the same way, framed with large red leaves. The stable and the cave did not befit this naive, but charming representation. (M.B.)
