Guided by his high school drawing teacher, a graduate of Belle Arte in Paris, Sorin Ilfoveanu would go on to attend the Nicolae Grigorescu Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest. Here, his colleagues include, among others, Ștefan Câlția, while his painting professor is Corneliu Baba. His first solo exhibition occurs during his student years, in 1968, la Pitești. Over time, Sorin Ilfoveanu would go on to exhibit his works in countless personal and group exhibitions, both nationally and abroad. He is awarded several prises and becomes an active part of the faculty within the Faculty of Fine Arts.
The work "Peacock and Marigolds" is a crystal-clear iteration of simplicity, which the author himself possesses and which he does not shy away from rendering in his paintings. Ilfoveanu uses a limited colour palette and doesn’t clutter his works, leaving viewers enough space for possible interpretations.
