bronze, 79 x 63 x 20 cm, signed and dated at the base, "FELIX AFTENE, (20)24"

Felix Aftene masterfully transitions his works from the two-dimensional plane of the canvas to the three-dimensional material composed of bronze, plaster, wood, resin, metal or fiberglass. In this way, he materially turns his artistic ideas into sculptures, managing to capture the viewer's attention with the diversity of the mediums used. The artist often proposes a neoclassical approach to mythological beings, skillfully contemporizing them. His characters are archetypal beings derived from late antiquity. The ideatic manner of representing the human body loses its typical characteristics and acquires a conspicuous symbolic charge. Felix Aftene adheres to the theories proposed by existentialists and transforms them into art. He transcribes his dreams from memory onto paper and eventually onto canvas, or in this case, three-dimensionally. The contortion of the character, face and feathers all converge towards the artist’s thematic leitmotif: flight. The mannerism encouraging daydreaming is enhanced by the metaphysical representation of human specificity, and the postures in which they are portrayed (especially in painting) remind of the surrealist flight of Marc Chagall's protagonists. The Voronet blue or the specific blue of Felix Aftene's painting, now becomes an oxidized blue, which contrasts strongly with the dynamizing breath of the bronze.
