Miklós Istvánffy (1538-1615) was a Hungarian historian and scholar who originated from an ancient aristocratic Hungarian family. Thanks to his affiliation to that part of Hungarian aristocracy which was link to the interests of the House of Habsburg in the area of the former Kingdom of Hungary, which was conquered by the Ottomans, he was in charge of several administrative functions. Nicolaus Olahus was his teacher and his mentor, and the relationship between the two of them remained constant for a longer period of time. His work represents the first historical synthesis of the Hungarian people, where the Romanian territories are mentioned, as well as Vlad the Impaler, Stephen the Great or Michael the Brave. The work knew a great success during those ages and was edited several times. The specimen is part of the 1724 edition, and its vintage binding is made of cardboard covered in leather, and its back is divided into seven registries. On the first page, before the title page, there is an ex-libris which attests the fact that, in 1764, the book was included in the library of Joseph Kerekes.
