Wolfgang (Farkas) Bethlen was part of one of the wealthiest and most powerful families of the Hungarian nobility in Transylvania. His relative Gabriel Bethlen governed the principality between 1613 and 1629. Wolfgang Bethlen was not just a historiographer, but held important dignities in the principality, such as those of captain of Gherla and count of Târnava. The six volumes are part of the second edition of the History of Transylvania realized by him, published in Sibiu in 1782. The binding of the volumes is recent, made of cardboard with a leather spine.
