A coloured and detailed map of the Black Sea area, showing the names of places, rivers and canals. It includes sailing ships, military roads and fortifications. "Atlas Russicus" is the first atlas of Russia, published by the Academy of Sciences in Petersburg, extending over the cartographic work previously made by Ivan K. Kirilov. Postnikov: "It gathers all geographic discoveries from the beginning of the 18th century, to offer a more complete picture of the entire empire, as compared to the one presented in the so-called Kirilov atlas. The maps were mostly based on instrumental polls, geographic descriptions and maps compiled by Geologii Petrini and his descendants". The maps have German and Latin titles; names of places written in Russian and Latin alphabets. The text of the cartouches is in Latin. The atlas was printed in September 1745 in Petersburg, in Russian, Latin, French, and German.
