Representative personality in local sculpture, Vasile Gorduz begins his artistic journey under the guidance of Ion Lucian Murnu. The year 1961 marks his debut in State and Artists' Union exhibitions. He will exhibit abroad - in Prague, Rome, Berlin ad Moscow. The numerous awards he has received over the years confirm his indisputable value in the art of sculpture. He works mainly in stone and metal and gives his sculptures anthropomorphic volumes. He adopts the particularities of traditional realism and will also briefly go through the attributes of constructivism. For Gorduz, the symbol hovers above the pure plasticity of the form and gives it a classical austerity. We experience, through his work, the influences of Giacometti and Brâncuși, through references to classical landmarks of genius. The artist articulates images of fabulous beings, sculpts people or animals and thus, creates a unique work. He also created monumental sculpture: the symbol of Romanian latinity, Traian, exhibited in Seville and a work dedicated to Eminescu in Montreal. He stands out for the lack of rhetoric that usually floods public forum sculpture and gives it a timeless dimension, going beyond traditional canons.
