Although the social and political context in which he pursued his studies was a complex one, Ion Bițan succeeded in identifying artistic models which were truly relevant for his creation. As the possessor of an eclectic talent, Bițan divided his creation periods between conventional and abstract art. However, the last period was marked by excellence and he received the international recognition he deserved. His work participated in various edition of the Venice Biennale and were included in the collection of some renowned museums worldwide, such as MoMA, Kunsthalle Hamburg or Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The artist's entire work appears as the consequence of an in-depth research of international experimental art. Style juxtapositions describe his entire work, as well as the uninterrupted quests of an artist with a thirst for knowledge. One can identify the eclectic nature of his work in the influences inspired by Pop Art, the new realism, fauvism, cubism or surrealism. Ion Bițan was one of the initiators of object art on the national level. He created modular objects, series or sculptures made of innovative materials. After 1989, the artist added written text to his visual work, by integrating parchment pieces, as we can also notice in the present work.
