Robert Auer was a Croatian painter and one of the most significant representatives of Secession in Croatian art. Born in Zagreb, he received his artistic education at the Academy in Vienna and Munich. His painting is characterized by refined color, decorativeness and elegance, especially in portraits of high society ladies, nudes, and allegorical compositions. Auer was a member of the Vienna association of Secessionist artists and a co-founder of the Croatian society "Lada". He also served as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he trained generations of young artists. His oeuvre is considered the pinnacle of Zagreb's Secession and an integral part of Croatian cultural heritage.
