106. Scraper (Motif from Vršić) [1952.]

1899, Νovo Mesto - 1989, Ljubljana

Estimate:
EUR 1.200 - 1.800

pastel on paper, 32 x 48 cm, signed lower right, in pencil, "B. Jakac"; located, dated and signed lower left, in pencil, "Vršić 1952., B. Jakac"

Božidar Jakac (1899 – 1989) was one of the most influential Slovenian expressionist, realist and symbolist painters. He was a master of portraits, graphics and pastels, and played a key role in the founding of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. This particular work depicts a view of the top of Škrlica from the Vršič Pass area, faithfully outlining his recognizable lyrical interpretation of the Julian Alps. Created in 1952, during a period when the artist was working as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, this work reflects Jakac's post-war evolution towards lyrical, poetic realism.
