A student of the "Nicolae Grigorescu" Plastic Art Institute of Bucharest (1951-1955), under the direction of professors Alexandru Ciucurencu, Octavian Angheluță and George Löwendal, the artist Sabin Bălașa will be the author of a work built in the proximity of truth, which he will explore diligently throughout his entire creation. Starting with the year 1955, he will stand out within the main group events in the country, at personal exhibitions, as well as at the Romanian art events from abroad. He conducts his debut performances around an abstract surrealism, which is assimilated by a mythical figurative, in the process. Revealing a true passion for figurative art, centred on the human being and the relationship with the universe, the artist Sabin Bălașa would be the author of an art swept by myths and mystery. Endowed with a rare power to invent and transfigure, the artist will display a fantastic world, populated by imaginary beings and animals, often resized, and these features will confer a monumental character to his compositions. The Universe, the place where he chooses to place his compositions, will be shrouded in an endless blue, covering with symbols themes like: peace, youth, motherhood, love, spring, homeland, life, death, victory, a.s.o.
