Oton Gliha (Črnomelj, Slovenia, 1914 – Zagreb, 1999) was a landscape painter of Croatian post-war modernism who studied in Zagreb and Paris. At the beginning of his work, he painted portraits and still lifes, but from the 1950s the most frequent motif became abstract dry stone walls that border fields - the piles of Krk and the Croatian coast. The oil painting "Heap 15-85" is signed in the central lower part of the picture. Gliha depicts the heap motif typically from a bird's eye view and condenses it into abstracted artistic elements. The motif loses its three-dimensionality and detailedness and is reduced to a surface. The dry stone wall is depicted rhythmically, like a geometric pattern in earthy, grey and brown tones.
