The end of the 19th century finds Theodor Pallady in the midst of the Parisian frenzy, where he would often return throughout his life. Inspired by the landscapes and inhabitants on the banks of the Seine, the artist will dedicate many of his works to this subject matter. However, he will limit his scope to his own visions and personal experiences and will not venture beyond this horizon. He becomes acquainted with the French protipendada and studies alongside Matisse, Marquet or Rouault under the guidance of Gustave Moreau. The group to which he adheres firmly opposes academicism, naturalism and impressionism. In 1920, Theodor Pallady establishes himself through a personal exhibition in Paris, one that bestows upon him critical acclaim. Having had the opportunity to thrive in such a rich cultural environment as Paris of the past century, Pallady gradually assimilates the major artistic trends proposed by his predecessors in the pursuit and perfection of his own painting style. His predilection for landscape, particularly urban landscape, develops along with his numerous trips abroad. Pallady displays an incomparable refinement through the integration of clear, luminous chromatic rhythms into the twilight atmosphere of the city. In his works, color is irrevocably linked to the properties of line and drawing. Landscape - a constant in Pallady's work - understood also as a subjective interpretation of the places through which the artist passed, reveals spaces from the country, from Bucium, where he lived when he returned to the Moldova region, or expanses from abroad, views of Paris or Provence. The most valuable of his stays are recorded in oil and reveal the artist's preference for wide perspectives and the motif of water. The Seine becomes a leitmotif, and cultural landmarks or cornerstones of French architecture such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame cathedral will be transcribed and depicted. The water will reflect the beauty of the city, and nature will contribute to shaping a total work of art. A painting of honesty, Pallady's work possesses a schematism of essential features and amplifies the enigmatic atmosphere of urban landscapes.
