The Dutch cartographer Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571-1638) founded in 1599 a printing enterprise specializing in the publication of maps and globes. In 1633, he was appointed cartographer for the Dutch East India Company. His most known and appreciated work was "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" first published in 1635 in six volumes. After Blaeu's death in 1638, his sons, Joan and Cornelis, continued their father's work, expanding it. This piece is part of an edition that appeared around 1658.
