Iconographic and stylistic identification elements: The Apostle Bartholomew was part of the line of Apostles from an iconostasis. He is depicted standing, oriented to the right, holding the Gospel to his chest with both hands. He is dressed in a red chiton and green himation, against a gold ochre background in the upper part of the icon and green in the lower part. He wears a golden nimbus around his head. The facial features, as well as the face pattern made in shades of ochre, are characteristic of Russian painting from the 16th-17th century, as are the graphic characteristics of the inscription. The icon is part of a series with the icons of the Apostle Luke, the Apostle John the Theologian, the Apostle Thomas, the Apostle Mark, and Archdeacon Aitala, all painted by the same painter during the same period. Technical identification elements: The wooden support of the icon is prepared identical to the icons in this series. Conclusions: The icon belonged to a Russian iconostasis and was painted in the characteristic style of the Russian school of painting from the first half of the 17th century (A.D.).
