Iconographic and stylistic identification elements: It was part of the Apostles' lineup in an iconostasis (six facing left, and six facing the right, in relation to the central icon depicting Jesus Christ). The Apostle Luke is portrayed standing, facing left, against a gold background at the top and green at the bottom of the icon. With his veiled right hand, he holds the Gospel. He is wearing a green chiton and a red himation. Around his head, there is a golden halo. The features of the face, as well as the model face made in successive shades of ochre, are characteristic of Russian painting of the 16th-17th century. The script is also consistent with the period. The icon belongs to a series including the icons of Saint Apostle Bartholomew, Saint Apostle John the Theologian, Apostle Thomas, Apostle Mark and Saint Archdeacon Aitala, all painted by the same anonymous artist and at the same timeframe. Technical identification elements: The wood platform of the icon has a wide crisscrossed frame on the front, and is strengthened with two lateral crossbars on the back. Conclusions: The icon belonged to a Russian iconostasis and was painted in a style characteristic of the Russian school from the first half of the 17th century (A.D.).
