When the colonists from Miletus arrived on the western Pontic shores, they encountered indigenous Thracian populations. The initiation of trade with these populations began in the form of barter, and as commercial relations intensified, it became necessary to find exchange tokens. Thus, in the treasures found at Enisala and Jurilovca, alongside functional arrowheads, there were many arrowheads used solely for exchange. In the northern region, pre-coins in the form of dolphins were also common. The most readily available material was bronze, with variants of electrum being very little known.
