"Self-portrait" of Atanas Patsev is characteristic of the author's work not only as a genre on which he often works, but also as the specific way of laying down the painterly mask of long liniform spots with watercolor transparency of color. This one form building approach creates a vivid and transparent painting surface, which suprises the viewer with its tangibility. The classic genre to which we owe our visual identity for many artists of world art history, is the self-portrait. It reflects the social situation, the cultural, racial and religious affiliation of the artist through the centuries. Psychologism is one of the main distinguishing features of the genre in general. Along with the physical characteristics, it reflects the temperament and character of the author model. In the self-portraits of Atanas Patsev, you can perceive melancholy and sadness, which is kind of a confession and disclosure. This strong sensitivity is conveyed through expressionof color and mastery of pictorial language. (S.N.)"
