The artwork "Lunch prepartions" is emblematic for the work of Anastas Staykov - one of the first Rhodope artists who graduated from the Art Academy and entered the artistic life of the country as early as the 1930s. The composition is very specific to the artist's oeuvre: an interior scene in Rhodope, with a character dressed in a traditional cosume in the center of the imagery. More often these are compositions with the artist's mother, who is doing usual activities - boiling porridge, or stirring kachamak on the oven. The canvas presents a figure of a Rhodope man with a hat and a black mustache, in a distinctive interior, sitting in a posture specific for the turkish people, on a divan in front of a low wooden table, on which a saucer with kachamak and a bowl of milk are placed. In the 30s, Anastas Staykov entered the artistic life with his own recognizable artistic method of form building, by decomposing the form into small spatial plans. This stylization of the volumes is also reinforced by the decorative color of the tempera or oil paint, where each field has an independent value. This original style did not go unnoticed, and Anastas Staykov became one of the recognizable Bulgarian artists, as he gained great fame with the large-scale painting "A Maiden Forgives Her Family". In the following decades, the artist constantly returned to this method of stylization. (S.N.)
