The name of Genko Genkov is a symbol of creative freedom and asserting one's own plastic view. In the early paintings of the late 1950s and early 1960s his painting are delicate and tonally moderate. The direction he chooses in the following decades has been towards increasing his active color values in simplified landscapes of nature. The painting "Landscape in Orange" is an example of his later's period, from the 70s, when his artworks depict a more sketchy nature. In support of this argument are the following features of the painting: an universe including both a natural landscape with trees and an architectural one, a colorful range built on the principle of contrast between warm oranges and ocher tones, and dark brown to black, graphically standing out trees, enriched with color accents in ultramarine, different ways of layering (colour layering in some areas and stripping or scraping away in others) and directional movements of the brush and the knife. These formal and stylistic features, as well as the general impression and expressive impact of the work, confirm that it artwork stands out in the overall work of Genko Genkov. The painting was purchased from Genko Genkov's studio in the 1970s by the literary critic and writer Prof. Mihail Vasilev. Genko Genkov was born in 1923 in the village of Choba, Plovdiv region. He graduated from the "Painting" specialty at the Art Academy in Sofia under Prof. Dechko Uzunov. He works mainly in the landscape genre. He regularly participates in general art exhibitions and presentations of Bulgarian art abroad. Genko Genkov presents 8 solo exhibitions - in the salons of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, in the Sofia City Art Gallery and ART 36. His last solo exhibition was in 2006 in Sofia City Gallery. In the same year, the artist died in Sofia. (S.N.)"
