The painter, writer, art historian, and scenographer Ljubo Babić (Jastrebarsko, 1890 - Zagreb, 1974) studied painting in Munich and Paris, and taught at the Art School in Zagreb. He was part of the Croatian Spring Salon, The Group of Four, The Group of Three. He designed currencies and the flag of the Independent State of Croatia. As the first curator of the Modern Gallery (now the National Museum of Modern Art), he is the author of the first setup. In his painter's life, he was not limited - he created oils on canvas, pastels, watercolors, posters, and book equipment, and he was even a scenographer. He was in search of an Indigenous Croatian visual expression based on folk art and folklore. By the late 40s, the Study of Sestine costume culminates the preoccupation with the village and the folk costume. He also published a map of Colors and Harmony after more intensive study of folk costume. His preoccupation with peasant life is visible in the Study for the composition of Šestinčanka, which features a female figure with a red scarf on her head in the foreground. The background, dominated by earthy tones, is neutral. All the focus is on the woman from Šestine. Her scarf strongly contrasts the background and attracts the eye. Babić's expressiveness in the brushstrokes and not overly realistic model of the woman and her clothes are still visible.
