Zoran Antonio Mušič (Bukovica, 1909. – Venice, 2005.) was one of the most prominent Slovenian artists of the 20th century, known for his bright, warm landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. He received his artistic education at the Academy in Zagreb, from 1945 he lived in Venice, and from 1953 in Paris, thus expanding the area of his activity beyond the borders of then Yugoslavia. During his stay in Venice, Mušič's works were exhibited in the Palazzo Sagredo and at the Venice Biennale, and Mušič gradually established contacts with the international art scene. The painting "Venice, Ships" was created in the years after World War II, a period marked by the experience in Dachau, which Mušič would later also depict in the cycle "We are not the last".
