Painter and graphic artist Albert Kinert (1919. - 1987.) ventured into various stylistic expressions, mostly leaning towards the play of visual elements. These would most often be of an abstract nature, but as he was extremely fascinated by the language of painting itself, he did not strictly confine himself to abstraction and knew how to incorporate recognizable figures from reality into his paintings as elements of the rhythmisation of their surfaces. This is also the case with the cycle of erotic paintings and drawings from the second half of the 1970s. In this oil canvas, a relief, gray mass of color is crisscrossed by black curves. After a closer look, we notice that some of them (very subtly and coloristically highlighted) form a scene of a man and woman having intercourse. The painter winks at the viewer who has recognized the sexual allusion in the abstract, modernist structure. This calls into question the deadly severity of visual modernism by adding a human, completely carnal element. On the other hand, this motif is not so unnatural and inappropriate in the pronounced strokes that surround it. For, aren't the ideas of passion and wildness woven into the very narrative of modernism, and isn't the emphasized presence of color (highlighting its physical, almost sensual element) associated with the negation of the classical image and any of its representative functions?
