Ion Negulescu, the son of a teacher in Craiova, was to become, after World War II, Jean Negulesco, director and producer of Hollywood films. After a short but fruitful artistic career during the 1920s and 1930s, Negulesco arrived in the US at the end of the 1920s, so that in 1932 he could really enter the world of cinema as a drawing artist and artistic advisor. Later on, in the 1940s, he became a scenographer and director; his first success was in 1944 with "The Mask of Dimitrios". His main achievements as a director occurred during the 1950s when he collaborated with the 20th Century Fox film studio, but also with Marilyn Monroe at the peak of her career ("How to Marry a Millionaire," 1953).
