The rubber and plastic company Dermatina in Timisoara was the main producer of condoms in Romania during the communist regime. Since the beginning of 1980s, the manufacture of such pregnancy prevention means decreased greatly due to the intensification of the abnormal demographic policy of the Ceaușescu regime. As a result, these products became rare and difficult to find, they were sold in underground structures, on the black market, at a price considerably higher than the official one.
