Franz Duschek (1830-1884), one of the pioneers of photography in Romania, became a photographer of the Romanian Royal Court, from which position he created several versions of King Charles I and Queen Elizabeth. This portrait was made after the marriage of 1869 and the arrival in Romania of Elizabeth of Wied with the future King Charles.
